About Grace
For the past five years, teaching has been the most important part of my life. My passion for teaching started in college and continues on each school year. The positive relationships I have with my students are unforgettable. These relationships are the reason I believe my students grow exponentially each year. I make learning fun for my students, and therefore they are learning important concepts and skills without even realizing it. This year my 1st graders all went up about 20 points on their MAP test and most of them were reading at about a 3rd grade level by the end of the year. The students' learning and success is what drives me every day to be the best teacher I can be for them.

As a classroom teacher of five years, I believe it is very important to establish a positive relationship with your students before anything else. It is important to me that my students trust me and feel comfortable to ask my questions or speak up when they do not understand something. That way, we can work through any challenge together with as little frustration as possible. A typical lesson starts with reviewing previous skills or lessons. Next, I state our learning intention for the day and the new skill or topic we will work on. I will walk through very specific examples and open the floor for questions. After demonstrating several examples and answering questions, I will explain the success criteria and explain to the student how I will know that they understand the lesson. Lastly, I will give a short exit ticket assignment that we will work through together so I know the student understands the material. If the exit ticket is telling me there is still some confusion about the learning intention, I will find another way to explain the material and continue to work through it together until it is grasped.
