About Explorer

Experienced 4th-5th grade teacher retired June 2025 from Concord Public Schools in Concord, Massachusetts. I was also a full year remote academy teacher in Concord during COVID. I currently tutor four students in grades 4-6. One of my parents wrote "I highly recommend Ms. Nancy. My daughter has experienced great success under her guidance. About the lesson

With over 36 years of teaching experience in grades 3–6, I specialize in helping students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, and research while keeping learning creative and enjoyable.

Teaching Method & Techniques:
My lessons are tailored to each child’s interests and strengths. I combine direct instruction with engaging, hands-on activities that spark curiosity and build confidence. Students don’t just practice skills—they discover how reading and writing connect to their world.

A Typical Lesson Plan:

Warm-up with background knowledge (pictures, short facts, or discussion)

Guided instruction on a specific skill (reading comprehension, note-taking, or writing)

Creative application—such as a short story, research activity, or essay draft

Wrap-up and reflection, setting a goal for next time

Special Writing Projects:
One of my most effective and popular lessons is a student-created Animal Magazine, where each student writes both fiction and nonfiction pieces, including articles, stories, interviews, and nature notes. This project not only develops strong writing skills but also builds organization, research, and creative thinking.
