About Meredith
I have experience teaching both Kindergarten and Grade One. I have taught as a reading specialist in grades K-4 for 26 years. I have taught both in person and in online settings.
I believe learning and literacy should be fun and stress-free. Students should be aware of their progress and growth at all times.
I am a Mom too! I know what it is like to suffer through homework every night, and also to receive that not-so-great news from the teacher about your child's progress. We made it through though, and you will too. Both of my boys are enrolled in college full time with academic scholarships.

I present explicit, systematic skills when teaching. I use a variety of fun animated Google slides that have been enhanced with positive feedback from students and administrators.
I believe that learning will only occur in an environment that is both fun and safe. Students will not be willing to take risks if they feel they are being judged, criticized, or "drilled".
A typical lesson plan involves a warm-up, review of skills previously taught, explicit teaching of the skill, then an "I do" demonstration followed by "we do" where the teacher and student practice together. The student will then demonstrate their knowledge in a "you do" model. Finally, the skill is practiced in a decodable text.
Student progress and assessments are always shared with the subject so they will have joy and pride in their accomplishments.
I am a certified Reading Specialist (K-12) in both New York and Pennsylvania. I have 26+ years of experience and my lessons are specifically for K-4 students who are performing below grade level in reading.
