About Rob

Helping students grow is a passion of mine; it is, in fact, my life's work. Since I graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2001 and NC Central University in 2005, I have worked to help students develop their potential in my roles as an Exceptional Children's Teacher, Middle School ELA/Science teacher, High School English and Social Studies teacher, and College Developmental Reading/Writing and English/History/Humanities instructor.

I’m Rob, a tutor with a penchant for critical thinking, creative instruction, and helping students transform confusion into confidence. Whether you’re grappling with grammar, wrestling with Reconstruction, or just trying to remember where you left your homework (hint: not under your cat), I provide customized instruction that meets you where you are—and takes you farther than you thought possible. My Teaching Philosophy: Education, when done right, is less like a factory and more like a greenhouse. I foster growth by designing lessons that are rooted in curiosity, structured around goals, and adaptable to the learner’s style—be it visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or some magnificent combination thereof. Expect lessons that are rigorous yet human, designed to spark engagement and deepen understanding. I use: Inquiry-based methods that encourage questioning and exploration Real-world connections to make abstract ideas meaningful Purposeful scaffolding to build independence, not dependence A Typical Lesson (though no two are ever quite alike): Check-In & Goal Setting We begin by identifying what needs the most attention. Sometimes it's thesis writing; other times it’s motivation itself. Both are within my remit. Warm-Up This is not gym class, but it is an intellectual stretch. Think writing prompts, short debates, or “spot-the-error” games that get the gears turning. Core Instruction This is where the magic happens—tailored to your learning style and goals. Whether it’s analyzing primary sources, breaking down a novel, or mastering persuasive writing, we do it with purpose and precision. Review & Reflect We conclude with a brief synthesis: what we covered, what you understood, and what we’ll tackle next. Clarity is power, and I like to send students away knowing exactly where they stand. Why Me?
