About Lola

Hi, I’m Lola – passionate about helping children build confidence in literacy.

- Currently working under a PTT as a Generalist Primary Teacher, specialising in STEM.

- Graduated with Distinction in Exercise & Sport Science and Nutrition Science; commencing a Masters of Teaching next year

- 2 years’ experience as a Primary School Education Support Officer

- Skilled in supporting children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and ASD

- Exposure to MSL structure and trained in the MACQLIT program through my work.

- Strong understanding of the Science of Reading body of evidence and behavioural support strategies.

I work at a primary school as a STEM/Generalist Teacher, whilst also working as Learning Support, and as part of the Literacy Intervention Team. I have just completed my double degree in the field of Health, but after my time working in education and with children for many years, I am pursuing my passion to teach with a Masters of Teaching; After years of being a Nanny and Au Pair, including to children with additional needs, I became a Learning Support Officer at a primary school and very quickly was asked to run Literacy Intervention lessons for children in our school.

I have been tutoring senior students for 5 years now but since working at a primary school I have developed a strong passion for helping children feel more confident and able to read and spell proficiently. Understanding WHY we read and spell the way we do in the English language is a huge part of unlocking your child's ability to excel in their learning and have greater ability to explore the world.

I think learning to read and write should be fun!

About the lesson

I follow a structured lesson plan, tailored to your child and what is being taught at school for their age group as well as what areas they need help in strengthening. Use of flashcards, fluency passages and games ensure your child is engaged and enjoying their time learning, rather than simply going through the motions. The resources I use in my lessons I strongly recommend you also using at home, so I make these available for you.

My lessons are targeted at children who need support in unlocking their best. Sometimes as a parent/carer it's hard to know what is being used as best practice nowadays (it's certainly different to even when I was at school); Gone are the days of 'Look, Cover, Write, Check' and 'Golden words'!
