About Henry
INTRODUCTION
I’m a senior at Northwestern’s School of Education, minoring in Computer Science. I have 5+ years of tutoring experience for elementary school kids through college and adults. I’m also a soon-to-be elementary school teacher in August 2026.
I enjoy designing effective learning experiences that cater to diverse learning styles, from digital visualization tools to reflection activities to educational board games.
I’m also a researcher who studies how emotions impact students’ use of learning strategies. One of my strengths is to facilitate self-reflection about obstacles to learning, and I believe that to learn things effectively is not just about consuming information, but about increasing self-awareness of what learning styles and strategies work for you personally.

WHY I TEACH WHAT I TEACH?
Psychology: I love psychology! Learning psychology is a way to know how humans think and act, and I’ve taken many psychology courses – developmental & cognitive psychology, cultural psychology, psychology of love, etc.
CS & Math: I struggle learning these subjects, but I still get to ace most of them because I know what learning strategies work. In my research, I’ve come to discover how students’ beliefs about themselves (“I don’t have CS brain”) shape their emotional responses during struggles (frustration, self-blame, hopelessness), and that these negative emotions prevent effective learning. In the moment of frustration, simply telling students to persist wouldn’t work. It’s important to surface these internal struggles and really work with them in order to reengage with effective learning.
College prep: I am the first one in my family to go to a US college. I went to Emory University as a Psychology major in my freshman year, and then decided to transfer to Northwestern. So I have ample experience and takeaways on how to strategize your college application.
