About Steven
My name is Steven Pulido. I was born and raised in San Diego California. I’m a recent UCSD graduate with a B.S. in Education Sciences (Elementary School) and a B.A. in Dance. I've worked with 4th graders, 5th graders, and Kindergartners, both remotely and in person. When I'm not tutoring, you can find me in a dance studio or graphic designing. I'm also the Executive Director of a collegiate dance team where I've been involved for about three years.

I focus on progressive methods of teaching. This includes creating a student-led environment, zone of proximal development (independent work under adult guidance), individualized learning, cultural representation, parental involvement, disrupting negative views of students, intersectional approaches, anti-bias framework, and more. Many of the students I’ve worked with are neurodivergent. My goal as an educator is to work with their neurodivergence instead of against it. Seeing it as an asset and not a deficit. My main area of focus is working with ESL students and students with ADHD. I myself grew up as an ESL student struggling with ADHD and have experienced an education system that was not designed for people like me to succeed in. Because of those experiences, I lead with empathy, exploring different methods, and accommodating in order to ensure academic success. As someone with ADHD I understand the importance of engagement. For any lesson or activity I perform with a student I always try my best to spark their interest. I do this through colorful visuals, frequently asking questions, hands on activities, and student lead activities. For motivation and confidence I think it is important to set high standards for every student and begin any constructive criticism on a positive note, as well as words of affirmation. I believe that tracking student progress requires one to have records of every activity/assignment done by the student. Going over it as much as possible and finding any patterns in their performance that may help understand what accommodations are necessary for their growth. I would love to work with you!
