About Annmaria

I am a first-year Economics student at the University of Warwick, having recently completed my A-levels with A*A*A and achieved 11 Grade 9s at GCSE. I have always enjoyed learning, but I also understand how frustrating it can be when you don't understand a topic or spend ages stuck on a difficult exam question and wish you had someone there to explain it to you.

This is one of the reasons I want to teach. I know how much of a difference it can make to have someone explain a difficult concept in a simple way and give you the confidence to try again. I have also helped teach my younger sister how to read during covid, which was incredibly rewarding and made me realise how much I enjoy helping someone develop a skill and seeing their progress.

I am passionate about helping students feel more confident in their abilities, rather than feeling discouraged when they find something difficult. I want my lessons to be a place where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at their own pace. Seeing a student go from struggling with something to finally understanding it is something I find really rewarding.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is to make lessons friendly, supportive and tailored to each student's individual needs. I believe that understanding a topic is more important than simply memorising information, so I focus on explaining concepts clearly and using examples to help students develop their understanding.

I like to begin by identifying which areas the student finds most difficult and then work through these together. Depending on the subject and the student's needs, I use worked examples, practice questions and exam-style questions, gradually allowing the student to work more independently. I also encourage students to ask questions and explain their thinking, as this helps identify any gaps in their understanding.

Lessons will typically be 1 hour long, although I am happy to adapt this depending on the student's age, level and needs.

While I have not worked as a formal tutor before, I have experience supporting children through my primary school volunteering and have regularly helped classmates understand difficult topics during my A-levels. These experiences have helped me develop patience and the ability to explain ideas in different ways.
