About Budmi

I am an Economics and Philosophy student having achieved A*AB for A levels, I studied Economics, Maths and History. I have provided English and Maths lessons to students from the ages 5-16 as well as A level Economics lessons over the past 2 years. My classes in the past have usually included five students which has therefore helped me become better at organising my time and structuring my lessons in case of any unprecedented circumstances on the day. My first job as a tutor which was in a tutoring centre required me to complete a full report of each student from my lesson, including an evaluation on their behaviour, punctuality, homework, effort, good aspects of their performance in lessons as well as what they could improve on in terms of their ability and knowledge by the end of each 1.5 hr lesson. I have taught a large range of students already with students who have a more cognitive approach whilst others a more creative, over time I have been able to develop lesson plans and approaches to subjects that allows me to tailor my service to the student more effectively and ensures that any progress the student makes is more lasting.

About the lesson

My teaching has a very student-centered approach as this allows me to provide more personalized service for my tutees. I see this as a more suitable teaching practice since the pace of learning differs among every child as well as an opportunity for metacognitive skills to develop. I also acknowledge that a student-centered approach allows the student to be offered the opportunity to interact with the instructor more freely and query their doubts on topics in a one-on-one session as opposed to a group session where their confidence to troubleshoot their problems on topics may be impaired by the possible judgment of their peers. Personalized learning also helps build an understanding for the student about how they learn.

I incorporate past papers into my sessions to develop a strong exam technique and provide model answers for students to show the standard that they should aspire to when answering as well as revision guides, textbook related questions and worksheets/books in order to do this. I ensure to plan powerpoints prior to the lessons to give an overview of the structure of how the content is learned and to aim to make my sessions as interactive as possible.
