About Cate

Education
I have received my High School Certificate in September 2022. Currently, I am studying for a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Criminology and Social Justice. I am pleased to say that I am thoroughly enjoying myself at university, and am doing extremely well.

Tutoring Experience
Between 2017 and 2022, I tutored 13 students of both primary and high school levels, and am pleased to see them achieve high band results! I started working with ‘A Team Tuition,’ as an Academic Personal Trainer (APT) in September 2022. Here, I learnt the importance of adopting a holistic tutoring approach and a ‘growth mindset.’ On top of this, I learnt essential skills and how to convert theory into practice. I loved my experience with A Team Tuition. I am also experienced with tutoring students that are on the spectrum. For example, one of my students who had ADHD had difficulty staying on track with homework. To mitigate this, I made homework tasks more manageable with extended due dates and lighter homework loads. Once she had found that the homework was indeed manageable, she was constantly submitting good-quality homework. To keep her positively engaged, I introduced incentives. Now, she has no issues completing her homework and always submits it on time.

“Catherine is an awesome tutor! She is always prepared for the lesson. Very punctual, kind and very approachable. Will definitely recommend her.”
Parent of a year 9 daughter (2023)

High School Experience
I loved my high school experience! The help of a few tutors, made the long journey a lot more manageable. I particularly struggled with issues of anxiety in exam situations, however, I learned to tackle this by mastering time management and acquainting myself with exam procedures. Studying English was the highlight of my education. I worked hard in year 10 and was accepted into extension English, which was my dream in high school. This is where we critically analysed film - my personal favourite - crafted creative pieces, polished up our persuasive writing and became confident when analysing literature.

Comments from my awesome English teacher (2022)...
"Catherine is an extremely hard-working and dedicated student who has demonstrated her maturity in her approach to English Advanced this semester. Her imaginative assessment task was outstanding, showcasing her ability to write engaging creative and insightful reflective texts. Catherine is encouraged to continue her considered approach to the subject."

My Expertise
I am notably adept in areas of reading, literary, comprehension, essay writing, creative writing, exam preparation, comparative analysis and multimodal curation. Once again, experienced between grades K-12.

Police Check
I have a ‘care, instruction and supervision’ NSW police check valid since September 2022. Available on request.

In the span of a month, one of my year 3 students achieved an excellent 94% on her mock NAPLAN assessment. A substantial increase from our first assessment, being 80.3%.

Lesson Structure
In this workshop, an online lesson is conducted on zoom with up to 5 students. We follow a structured lesson plan, focusing on creative, analytical, persuasive and other types of writing. Resources, Q&A, 1-1 feedback, homework, notes and worksheets will be provided!

Distinct Learning Needs
I am passionate about helping students positively engage with their work and achieve high results! The classroom tends to be a highly-competitive and daunting environment, so my mission is to mitigate this by focusing on the student's distinctive weak areas, as class lessons veer towards a generalised education. By working with smaller groups of up to 5, I am able to target students needs specifically. I understand that every student has distinct learning techniques that work personally for them, and will shape my lessons to satisfy your child's needs! For example, if they need guidance with formulating a strong persuasive response, I will focus on familiarising them with high-modality words, persuasive devices and relevant rhetoric.

Lesson Duration
The lesson duration is 1.5 hours!

My Resources
All learning tools that I manage are located in the Google Suite. This includes Google Classroom, Drive, Docs and Slides. This means that all resources are easily accessible to students and parents. Online learning is conducted via Zoom, where I have the mobility to use an interactive whiteboard to do content brainstorms whilst seamlessly screen sharing during the lesson. On top of this, I have withheld all my high school worksheets, exam papers (with feedback and marking annotations), flashcards, self-made, in-depth notes, and simplified notes that I am more than happy to share!

My Role
As an experienced tutor, my role includes motivating students and helping with any academic challenges they may face.

My Duties Outside of Class Time
Being a tutor is a demanding yet fulfilling job. Outside of class time, I am tasked with drawing up lesson plans, researching to curate my resources, composing and marking homework as well as staying up to date with student progress. I am available 24/7 via contact on Google Classroom, email and SMS for any content requests or enquiries.

Payment Plans
I offer 3 types of payment plans as detailed. A 5 or 10-hour lesson pack, and by-the-hour tutoring.

Still deciding?
I offer a consult call, free first lesson and free workshop pass! Feel free to try any of these out!
