About Alice
My name is Alice and I am a chemistry and maths tutor. I have just graduated from Durham University with an integrated Master's degree in Chemistry and am now working part time as a lab technician and assistant in a secondary school. My Master's thesis was titled 'Synthesis and Analysis of Ruthenium Complexes as Anticancer Agents' and as part of this project I carried out organic and inorganic synthesis to create ruthenium complexes that target histone deacetylase enzymes, which have emerged as important molecular targets in cancer therapy. Whilst this discipline of chemistry is my area of expertise, I enjoy and am confident in all areas of chemistry, and I managed to keep up my maths skills post A-levels as I took pure maths modules in my first and second years at university.

I am an aspiring teacher and have experience tutoring GCSE and A-level chemistry and maths students as I volunteered with the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative throughout the early months of the pandemic. I also tutored Key State 3 Maths students whilst I was studying for A Level Maths. I want to help pupils gain confidence and improve their results in chemistry and maths. I have very strong communication skills and will be flexible in my teaching styles and methods, ensuring I explain concepts in an accessible way for each pupil. Typical length of a lesson is 45 minutes to an hour, and the first session will involve diagnostic assessment.
