About Hamish
I’m a university student studying Theoretical Physics at Durham University, having recently achieved 3 A*s at A Level in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I’ve always enjoyed understanding how and why things work, and I particularly enjoy the challenge of taking a difficult concept and finding a simple way to explain it.
I know how frustrating it can be when a topic just doesn’t seem to make sense, and how much of a difference it can make to have someone explain it from a different perspective. Having recently completed my own GCSEs and A Levels, I have a good understanding of the courses, exams and challenges students face from my own experience as well as others I've helped.
I’m friendly, patient and approachable, and I want my lessons to be an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Whether you’re struggling with a particular topic or aiming for the very top grades, I’ll work with you to build both your understanding and confidence.

I offer friendly, personalised online tutoring in Maths, Further Maths and Physics for GCSE and A Level students. Having recently achieved 3 A*s at A Level and now studying Theoretical Physics at university, I understand both the challenges of these subjects and what is expected in exams.
My approach is centred around understanding rather than memorisation. I’ll first identify areas where a student is struggling, explain the underlying concepts clearly, and then work through increasingly challenging problems together. I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique, learning how to approach unfamiliar questions and presenting solutions clearly for maximum marks.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although I can adapt this depending on the student's needs. I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, while still making consistent progress towards their goals.
I teach students from GCSE through A Level, whether they are looking to build confidence, improve their grades, or push towards the highest marks.
