About Tom
My name is Tom and I am currently an undergraduate studying history at Durham and have just finished my first year, achieving a high 2.1. At school I took history throughout, achieving a 9 at GCSE and an A* at A-level and believe that I can translate these experiences into useful teaching and advice for current students. History can be complicated and difficult to convert into high marks, but having worked hard through these two stages I now know of a number of techniques that can help you make history more manageable.

My typical lessons, lasting around an hour, would be focused around thematic questions likely to come up in either GCSE and A-Level exams. It is easy when studying for these exams to be lost in simply learning facts and dates for your topics. While certainly a vital foundation, marks are largely gained through your ability to manipulate these facts and dates into a well structured and thought through answer. Therefore, my lessons will be largely question driven, allowing for the explanation of any misunderstood topic while maintaining a strong focus on the likely questions you will face. Having achieved a 9 at GCSE and an A* at A-level, I have continued to study at Durham University and feel well placed to offer tuition which will boost your ability to achieve high grades.
