About Michael

I began playing drums aged 10 and quickly developed a lifelong love for the instrument. I was fortunate enough to study with some great teachers in my native New Zealand and at Drummers Collective in NYC and P.I.T London. I have spent my entire adult life involved in the music industry and have been lucky enough to enjoy a career writing, recording and playing music around the world. For the past 25 years I have also been a music educator and have taught 1000’s of students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds in schools, education centres and privately. I am also the founder of drumnuts.com and author of the Drumnuts, How to Play the Drums series of books. In 2022 I moved from New Zealand to Torbay in Devon, U.K with my wife and family to begin a new chapter in our life.

About the lesson

Whether you are a complete beginner looking to master the basics or an experienced player wanting to tackle advanced concepts, I can help. Welcome to your drumming Journey. My name is Michael. In our lessons, we’ll cover a variety of topics, including grooves, fills, stick control, technique, and coordination. Plus, you’ll get the opportunity to learn and play along with your favourite songs. I also offer group lessons, where you can collaborate with other students at a similar skill level. These group sessions not only make lessons more affordable, but they also provide a supportive, low-pressure environment where you can grow at your own pace. I offer 30, 45 or 60min lessons and will tailor each session to your particular needs and goals. Through my teaching experience, I’ve developed the ability to recognise each student’s learning style and adapt my approach to communicate effectively. I truly enjoy sharing my passion for drumming with others, and nothing beats the satisfaction of watching my students grow and develop as musicians.

Perfect! Really enjoyable first lesson with Michael. Very patient and friendly guy. Understood what I was looking to achieve and how we were going to achieve it. Really nicely structured session as well which provided the right amount of challenge. Lots to work on and very much looking forward to it.
