About Callum

I became an English teacher at a private school after graduating from the University of Cambridge with a double first class degree in the subject. I am currently living in London with my literary-named French bulldog, Aesop, who I love to spend time with, as well as reading (of course, reading!). I have wanted to be a teacher since my English teacher taught me to read between the lines in order to analyse ‘Macbeth’. Using a line from the play, she said: “look past the innocent flower to see the serpent under it”. For me, that was a light-bulb moment which opened up a world of interpretation where I realised what inferring and analysing language meant; looking underneath the words for their (sometimes hidden) meanings. Ever since I have wanted to be the teacher which could bring others to such moments of educational enlightenment.

About the lesson

Whether you need help with coursework or exam preparation, my lessons will develop the knowledge and skills needed to excel in either English Language or Literature. Depending on what areas you want to build your confidence in, lessons will be cultivated with your individual requirements in mind, using a variety of learning strategies and engaging resources. I am currently an English teacher and I graduated with a Double First Class degree from the University of Cambridge, so my lessons will be structured to both build upon your subject knowledge in accordance with any specification, as well as, hopefully, instilling a love of English which will serve you well in your future. I have taught and tutored a range of students, from all backgrounds and in all ability levels. I have also mentored several students through the Oxbridge application process, including personal statement writing and interview practice.
