Fun and formal, my classes are taught through a lot of conversation and visual learning, ensuring the student learns new words and phrases each day.

I give lessons to any eager learners, no matter the age. They can be fun or more formal, depending on the students preferences/needs.

With regards to homework, I guide the student, motivate them, and help them learn to proofread their assignments well.
Most importantly of all, I encourage all my students to do their best and have fun whilst learning, as that is how I believe one learns best.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

As a teenager, my favourite subjects were English and Spanish. I would help out my classmates often with assignments and realised I had a knack for teaching and enjoyed it immensely.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I focus on helping students develop their language skills in various areas, such as reading, academic and creative writing, speaking, and listening. We discuss topics which engage the mind: philosophy, nature and climate change, world literature, and cultural aspects of English / Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Melvin Gwanzura, my A-level teacher. He was firm and genuinely believed in all the student's potential. He created an environment where you were encouraged to work hard, challenge yourself, question ideas and criticise theories; these lessons were invaluable. He is no longer with us, and I miss him very dearly.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, a fun personality, and flexibility. Be prepared for all situations and deliver the best lessons possible. Achieving a balance between formal learning and an enjoyable lesson is critical. Relate to the students, but remain a teacher and mentor first and foremost.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Acknowledge your mistakes and always strive to improve; failure is a part of life, and there is no learning and growth without overcoming barriers.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Organisation and time management were a struggle growing up. I now keep a tidy schedule with my weekly top priorities and tasks.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I wholeheartedly enjoy proofreading and editing university assignments. There is such a breadth of fascinating knowledge and information in higher education that I always learn something new and exciting.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

My enduring optimism and belief in my students. I always aim to improve students' confidence and discipline most of all. Instilling a love for learning and interest in new topics is a crucial life skill.
