About Maro
Hi, I am a brand designer and native Mandarin / Cantonese speaker. I also speak English and Spanish, which allows me to work comfortably with students from different cultural backgrounds and explain Chinese in a clear, accessible way.
My lessons are designed to build both confidence and real communication ability. I focus on helping students speak naturally and understand how Chinese is actually used in everyday life, while also paying close attention to pronunciation, tone accuracy, and practical expression in both Mandarin and Cantonese.

Hi, I’m Maro — a designer and native Mandarin & Cantonese speaker.
My teaching approach is rooted in how I naturally think as a visual creator: I use art, design, imagery, and real-life cultural context to help students feel the language instead of memorizing it mechanically. I believe Chinese becomes much easier when it is connected to atmosphere, emotion, and lived experience.
My teaching method & techniques
I combine conversational practice with visual thinking. That means we might learn vocabulary through images, explore grammar through storytelling, or break down expressions using real cultural references (films, design, everyday scenes). I also focus strongly on pronunciation and natural speaking rhythm, especially for Cantonese and Mandarin tones.
A typical lesson plan
Each lesson usually starts with a warm-up conversation, followed by a themed input (such as a visual, short text, or cultural topic). We then break down language points together, practice speaking in context, and finish with a short creative output — like describing a scene or building a mini dialogue.
What sets me apart
I don’t teach Chinese as a rigid academic subject. I design each lesson like a small experience, where language, aesthetics, and culture connect. My background in design helps me simplify complexity and make abstract language feel intuitive.
Who the lessons are for
My lessons are suitable for beginners to intermediate learners (A1–B2), especially students who are curious about Chinese beyond textbooks — including creatives, visual thinkers, and anyone interested in Mandarin or Cantonese in a more natural, expressive way.
