About Jelena

I’m a classically trained pianist and musician with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and over 10 years of experience teaching piano.

Music has been a central part of my life from a young age. I started playing piano when I was 10 years old and have continued playing for the past 26 years. My foundation is in classical piano, with extensive training in classical repertoire and technique, and over time I have also expanded my musical experience to include pop and contemporary music.

During my university studies, I received extensive training in music theory, harmony, ear training, choir conducting, arranging, and music education. This broader musical education has given me a strong understanding of how music works and different ways of approaching and learning it.

As a teacher, I’m patient, attentive, and genuinely invested in my students’ progress. I believe a good teacher should be able to explain things clearly, listen to the student, and adapt when something isn’t working. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing their own musical voice.

I take my role as a teacher seriously, while also believing that lessons should feel enjoyable and inspiring. Whether you’re beginning from scratch, returning to the piano after years away, or looking to take your playing further, you can expect professionalism, preparation, encouragement, and a genuine love of music from me.

I would be happy to help you discover — or rediscover — the joy of playing piano.

About the lesson

I’m a classically trained pianist with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Music. I offer personalized piano lessons built around your goals, the music you love, and the pace that works best for you. My playing and teaching span classical, jazz, pop, and beyond, so lessons can be tailored to your interests rather than confined to one style.

My approach is patient, encouraging, and individualized. Before creating a lesson plan, I take the time to understand where you’re starting from and where you want to go — whether you want to play your favorite songs, develop strong technique, explore classical repertoire, prepare for exams, or simply learn piano for the joy of it.

Lessons combine hands-on playing with technique, repertoire, music reading, and music theory. I want students not only to learn what to play, but also to understand why the music works. Depending on your goals and level, we may also work on rhythm, ear training, chords, improvisation, or interpretation.

I have experience teaching students of different ages and backgrounds, including young children and complete beginners. With younger students, I use age-appropriate games, creative activities, and positive encouragement to make lessons engaging while building strong musical foundations. With adults and more experienced students, I enjoy adapting lessons to their individual interests and goals — whether that means learning a particular repertoire, returning to the piano after years away, developing technique, or simply having a meaningful and enjoyable musical outlet.

I believe students learn best when they enjoy what they are playing. Choosing music that genuinely interests a student can make a huge difference in motivation, curiosity, and progress. I want every student to feel challenged and supported while also leaving each lesson feeling that they accomplished something.

Lessons are open to all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced pianists. Whether you’re taking your first piano lesson, returning to the instrument, or looking to develop further, I’ll meet you where you are and help you work toward your goals.

I offer online lessons and in-home lessons in the Los Angeles area, primarily serving North Hollywood, Valley Village, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Burbank, and nearby neighborhoods.

If you’re looking for a teacher who will keep lessons engaging, build strong musical foundations, and help you grow both as a pianist and as a musician, I’d love to work with you.
