About Karina
I hold an associate degree in Criminal Justice and a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Psychology, and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree to become a teacher. As a student and a parent, I deeply understand the challenges of balancing school, personal responsibilities, and everyday life. It can be overwhelming at times, but I believe it’s possible to succeed with the right support and guidance. Growing up, I was fortunate to have the support of my mom, teachers, and peers, who encouraged me to persevere through challenges and succeed academically. Their belief in me made a lasting impact, and I want to provide that same encouragement and support to others. My goal as a future teacher is to inspire students to overcome obstacles, recognize their potential, and build confidence in their abilities. I want to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel empowered to grow and thrive.

Teaching Method and Techniques • Student-Centered Approach: I focus on understanding the individual learning styles and needs of each student, adapting lessons to suit their pace and interests. • Interactive Learning: Incorporate discussions, real-life examples, and critical thinking exercises to make lessons engaging and practical. • Breakdown of Concepts: Simplify complex ideas into smaller, more digestible steps to build confidence and mastery. • Feedback and Encouragement: Provide constructive feedback while celebrating progress to keep students motivated. A Typical Lesson Plan 1. Introduction and Goals (5-10 minutes): Discuss what the student wants to focus on and outline objectives for the session. 2. Engagement Activity (10 minutes): Start with an interactive exercise, such as analyzing a short text or discussing a relevant topic. 3. Core Lesson (30-40 minutes): • Explain the main topic using examples and visuals. • Work on activities like writing prompts, reading comprehension, or grammar exercises. • Encourage questions to ensure understanding. 4. Review and Recap (10 minutes): Summarize the key takeaways and address any remaining questions. 5. Homework or Follow-Up (5 minutes): Assign practice exercises or suggest readings to reinforce learning. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor • Academic Background: My degrees in Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology allow me to bring a multidisciplinary perspective, enriching lessons with real-world applications. • Relatability: As a master’s student and a parent, I understand challenges students face and can connect on a personal level. • Empathy: Growing up in a low-income community, I value equity and strive to support students who feel overlooked or struggle with self-confidence. • Passion for Learning: I’m dedicated to helping students not only improve academically but also develop skills that empower them in the long run. Who the Lessons Are For • Grade Levels: Elementary through high school students (Grades 4-12). • Focus Areas: English reading, writing, grammar, and critical thinking skills. • Specific Needs: Students preparing for exams, improving writing skills, or struggling with comprehension. • Special Support: I’m particularly equipped to work with students from diverse backgrounds or those needing extra encouragement. By tailoring lessons to individual needs, I aim to make learning English an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
