About Miley
Hello! My name is Miley Oliveira, and I am a seventeen-year-old senior at East Providence High School with a strong commitment to leadership, learning, and helping young students succeed. With more than fourteen years of experience in dance—now as both a performer and assistant instructor—I’ve developed patience, confidence, and the ability to guide children in a focused, positive environment. Beyond the arts, I’m an active honors student involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, color guard, musical theater, and several AP classes, including AP English Language and Composition. These experiences have strengthened my communication skills, responsibility, and professionalism. I have extensive experience working with children through babysitting, my role as an assistant dance instructor, and my yearly internship at Camp Invention, where I help lead hands-on activities for students in grades 1–5. I’m dependable, calm, and enthusiastic, and I always strive to create an encouraging space where kids feel supported and excited to learn. I’m passionate about helping young learners grow, and I bring energy, creativity, and genuine care to every session. Parents can feel confident that I will show up prepared, patient, and dedicated to their child’s progress.

I use a patient, kid-centered approach that focuses on building confidence as well as skills. I combine phonics, guided reading, vocabulary development, and interactive writing activities to help children strengthen their literacy in a fun way. I always start by understanding how each child learns best and then adapt my methods—whether they need visual tools, hands-on activities, storytelling, or repetition. I keep sessions positive, engaging, and supportive to help kids stay motivated and feel proud of their progress.
My lessons are designed for:
Elementary school students (K–5)
Children who need extra support in reading, writing, phonics, or comprehension
Students who benefit from a gentle, encouraging, and interactive learning environment
Kids who may lack confidence, are new readers, or simply need someone patient to reinforce what they learn in school.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I genuinely enjoy working with kids, with years of experience as both a babysitter and a summer STEM camp volunteer. I know how to keep students engaged and comfortable.
I’m a high-achieving English student myself, so I bring strong academic knowledge paired with a relatable, approachable teaching style.
I’m patient, encouraging, and great at making learning feel fun, especially for kids who struggle with reading or feel frustrated in school.
I build real connections, making kids feel supported, understood, and excited about their progress.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-Up Review-
Quick recap of recent skills—letters, sounds, sight words, or writing prompts.
Guided Reading or Phonics Practice-
We work together through leveled texts or phonics exercises to build foundational reading fluency.
Interactive Activity-
This might include word games, sentence building, reading aloud, creative storytelling, or writing short passages. I keep this part fun so learning feels natural.
Independent Practice
The child practices a skill on their own while I guide gently as needed.
Positive Feedback + Next Steps
I highlight strengths, celebrate wins, and give simple goals for the next session.
