About Alina
Who I Am & Why I Teach I was born in Romania, where I completed a BA in Translation and Interpreting, before moving to London in 2008 to pursue an MA in Language Teaching. Soon after graduating, I gained my CertTESOL and began my teaching career. The most rewarding part of my journey has been teaching IELTS in a private school, where over the years I helped hundreds of students from around the world gain entry to prestigious universities in the UK and Europe, as well as secure professional roles in the UK. As a non-native speaker, I deeply understand the challenges of learning English and use this perspective to support my students with patience, creativity, and practical strategies. Teaching, for me, is about opening doors — to education, to careers, and to new opportunities — and I’m passionate about helping learners achieve their goals with confidence.

My Approach to Private Tutoring As a non-native English speaker myself, I know first-hand how challenging it can be to master a new language. This allows me to connect with my students on a deeper level, as I understand the difficulties they face and can offer practical, empathetic guidance. I mainly work with adults who want to improve their English for personal, professional, or academic reasons. At the same time, I also support young learners who are preparing for important exams. My lessons are always tailored to each individual’s needs, ensuring that students gain both confidence and skills in a supportive environment. Patience and creativity are at the core of my teaching. I enjoy finding different ways to explain concepts so that students feel engaged and motivated. With 4+ years' experience of specialised exam preparation, particularly IELTS, and 7+ experience as an examiner (marking writing papers for various organisations like Trinity College London and NOCN), I can provide unique insights and strategies that help students perform at their best. Ultimately, my goal is to help learners not only improve their English, especially their writing, but also feel more confident using it in real-life situations.

I was very lucky to have Alina as my personal tutor while preparing for the IELTS exam. At the time, I needed a minimum score of 6.5 to pursue my master’s degree.
