About Kalyani

Hi there! I am an experienced professional working in the finance industry at a BIG 4 bank and tutor students on weekends as a passion that I just cannot give up.

Prior to beginning my professional career, I had been teaching primary and high school students for over 4 years at a local tutoring agency, working with children across a range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and ability levels. I have held various voluntary positions working with children and young adults, including as a high school educator with AIME (Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience) specifically to increase students' engagement in the educational system through creative teaching strategies. Alongside my university degree, I also tutored first- and second-year university students in the field of business and economics. Currently in my day job, I work in the Quality and Development space, where I am able to translate my love for learning to a more formal environment.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Dean's Scholar) in 2020, majoring in Economics and Finance. Having achieved a Band 6 ATAR upon high school graduation in 2015, I have been presented with various awards, including the Faculty of Business Undergraduate Scholarship and the Dean's Scholar Award for my outstanding academic performance. I have been placed on the Faculty of Business Merit list for being in the top 5% of my cohort.

About the lesson

What: I provide tutoring for both primary and high school students having had experience in both. Subjects covered include English, Maths, Business Studies, Economics and French. Lessons are 1 hr long (at a minimum) and can be adjusted according to the student's requirements.

Where: Meeting at a local area (eg public library) or at the tutor's home preferred. I can travel to the student at an additional charge. Online lessons available.

How: My approach to teaching centres around patience and cultivating a passion for learning in my students - often, they may be disillusioned by the rote learning promoted in schools which needs to be dealt with carefully. In my lessons, I like to foster a culture of trust and openness for the student to freely discuss their concerns whilst also achieving tangible progress by way of grades and feedback from the school.
