About Hoseok

Hi, I'm Hoseok! I attended the University of Waterloo studying Data Science.

When I was younger, I remember feeling lost and confused by math because of a lack of hands-on experience with the things I was learning. If you feel the same way, know that I've been there, and I'm here to help.

I've had a passion for teaching for almost my entire life. For me, a big part of teaching is building a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. I'd love to get to know both where you'd like guidance in your studies, and about you as a person. This will help me tailor my lesson plan specifically to you.

Some of my own research interests lie in the realm of AI and machine learning. I recently had the opportunity to run a neural network workshop at one of McMaster University's hackathons. In a way, there's some resemblance between training AI model and teaching human students, and I've definitely taken methods from one to boost the other.

Whether you're searching for eigenvalues of a matrix or need some help with your trigonometry homework, I've got you covered. Let's chat!

About the lesson

I am a firm believer in the statement "practice makes perfect." The best scientists, artists, and athletes got to where they are today because of thousands of hours of practice. Such a learning environment is something I hope to provide for my students!

Here's what you can expect from a typical lesson:

- Lots of practice problems with solutions explained step-by-step.
- Examples from real-life applications. For example, how can we use algebra to calculate a final price after tax? How can we use probability to make smart decisions in our lives?
- Going above and beyond: How might certain topics from the lesson appear in other areas of study? Can we take what we've learned one step further by being curious? Asking "why" can be just as important as the "how".

All this being said, I won't ever force my students to take on more than they can handle at once. Everyone has their own pace, whether that's one or ten practice problems a day. As long as you've left our lesson feeling more confident in your knowledge than at the start, that's what matters most to me.
