Cybersecurity Analyst Teaching Absolute Beginners: No Jargon, Just Practical Skills
About Me
Hey! I work as a cybersecurity analyst, so this isn't theory I picked up from a course. It's what I actually do every day. That said, my favorite part of the job isn't the work itself, it's explaining it to people who've never touched this stuff before and watching it finally click for them.
I got into tutoring because I kept noticing the same thing: cybersecurity sounds way scarier than it actually is. Most explanations out there are either too technical or too vague to be useful. I try to sit right in the middle, simple enough that you're never lost, but real enough that you're actually learning something useful.
Whether you're a student who's curious about how hacking and online safety actually work, or an adult thinking about switching into IT, I'll meet you exactly where you're starting from. If that's zero, that's completely fine.
How I Teach
I'm not a "watch me talk for an hour" kind of tutor. A few things I do in most lessons:
I explain new ideas using comparisons to everyday stuff. A lot of digital security makes way more sense once you compare it to something like a lock on a door or how mail gets delivered
You're doing the clicking, not me. I'd rather you make a mistake in a safe setting and understand why than just watch me do it right
After each lesson you'll have something short to look back on, so you're not trying to remember everything from memory alone
What a Lesson Usually Looks Like
Roughly an hour, broken down like this:
First 10 minutes: a quick real example (like a company that got hacked through something silly) to set up what we're learning
Next 15: I walk you through the actual concept, keeping it conversational, not lecture-y
25 minutes of actually doing it: hands-on with real tools/dashboards, at your pace
Last 10: quick recap, and sometimes I'll leave you a small puzzle to chew on before next time
Who Should Book Me
Honestly, if you've never written a line of code and have zero background in this, you're exactly who I want to teach. This works well for:
Teenagers curious about how the internet and online security actually work
Adults looking to move into IT or cybersecurity as a career change
Anyone starting to study for a beginner-level IT/security certification and wanting it explained in a way that actually sticks
There's no question I'll think is too basic. I ask plenty of "basic" questions myself when I'm learning something new, so I get it.
