About McKenzie
I am a teaching assistant in a Catholic elementary school, and I work closely with grades 2, 3, 4, and 5. I am also currently attending a university for a Bachelor degree in elementary education. Coming from a small Catholic school upbringing, myself, it has not always been easy to get extra help when needed. I enjoy working one-on-one with many students, and I feel that is the best way to ensure students are understanding the material they are being taught. A majority of my day-to-day consists of working with small groups of students, reading or teaching them the materials they are struggling with. I find that the small groups and one-on-one learning is the most effective in seeing improvement among students.

I have always enjoyed taking English classes in school, and I have always enjoyed writing. English and math have always been my favorite subjects to teach, especially in the younger elementary years, because these subjects consist of the core values of the subjects, which will be remembered for many years that follow. I teach in a variety of different ways, utilizing the first session as a way of seeing where each student stands and how they learn best. Learning is also oftentimes a trial and error process, meaning that we may need to experiment with different teaching methods before finding the right one. I am patient and understanding, and I will work with each student to help them figure out the best solution to not only understanding the material, but to also finding learning enjoyable.
