About Elliot
Hi! I am a huge coffee enjoyer and cycling enthusiast. I love interacting with people!
English is a beautiful language. I do not want my students to see learning it as a chore. I hope that in my way of teaching, I will invoke some form of appreciation for the language. Good writing changed the way I think, and I want my students to experience that too.

Every student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to each student's needs rather than following one fixed method. My focus is on teaching students how to write a strong essay from the ground up: structuring an argument, developing each point, and, most importantly, supporting it with relevant, well-chosen examples. This is the area where I find most students fall short, so I show them what makes an example effective and how to build their own bank of examples they can draw on in exams. I also emphasize clarity over flowery language. Examiners reward essays that are precise and well-argued, and I train students to say more with fewer words.
Lessons are typically 1.5 to 2 hours long.
I have three years of experience tutoring Secondary English, Literature, and General Paper, and have guided many students to A grades in their examinations.
I teach students from Secondary 1 to JC2 (ages 13 to 18), covering Secondary English, Literature, and General Paper. I also help students applying to university, including with personal statements and admissions preparation.
