About Jack
Hello! My name is Jack Gold and I am currently a sophomore at Union College in Schenectady, New York, studying Political Science and Music. I have been playing guitar primarily for fifteen years, but have experience with bass, drums, piano, clarinet and saxophone. I have played in a variety of groups with genres ranging from hard rock and heavy metal to competition jazz groups as the lead guitarist. I love all types of music, and look forward to helping inspire you as a musician.

As a tutor, I try to modify each lesson to play into the student's strengths, whether they are completely new to the instrument, or have been playing at a high level for years. I believe there can be multiple ways to each one skill, and learning the student's behaviors and tendencies are paramount to being effective in a teaching environment. For example, for a new guitar player who is struggling to learn basic open-voiced chord shapes, I can modify the chord to best fit that student. A G-major chord can be played in multiple positions where a student would have an easier time playing it. For a more advanced student who is just getting into the world of solo improvisation, teaching them basic licks in the key of the song could be more beneficial than just teaching them the scale for that key. This way, it forces their ear to listen, and their brain to hear a series of notes instead of just playing the scale up and down.
