About Austin
Hi I'm Austin! Ive worked with children for 15 years as a counselor, behavior therapist, substitute teacher, and instruction aide but the thing I'm most passionate about is tutoring for a family. I did this for the first time in 2011 teaching English to children in Madrid, Spain. The progress we made was so rewarding!
In 2015, I taught English again with both children and adults 1:1 and in groups in Mexico City. When I returned to San Diego in 2016 to 2019, I went back to autism therapy, but I missed tutoring.
So when COVID hit, parents hired me to assist their kids on zoom school. This became my speciality and I did this for a 3, 8, 10 and 12-year-old in 2020 to 2021.
In 2023 to 2024 I tutored an 11 yr old boy who had all Ds and Fs and needed to pass 5th grade. He was intelligent, but had an emotion regulation issue. So I used some programs for motivation and coping I have learned and by 4 months into working with him, he had all As and Bs!

I teach with a style that works for most anyone- I find the areas that are most challenging for you in whatever subject area and focus and work hard on those until you gain so much confidence and understanding in the hardest parts for you that all the rest of the subject material apppears easier and more manageable!
As I am also a therapist, I focus on building confidence, self esteem and trust in our relationship to make you feel like you are teaching yourself to perform better, and therefore feel better about yourself , and perform better in all areas of your life, notjust the one subject you thought you needed help with.

Austin is amazing! My daughter who is 6 years old, has been held back in kindergarten , and also has special needs (on the autism spectrum) , and I had asked Austin to not only help with her reading and math, but because he had experience with special needs children, to help with possible behavioral and emotional therapy. He succeed with teaching her basic math skills , and she is now reading books of her age group! On top of that, she is now regulating her emotions, and her behavior has improve tremendously, resulting in a healthier relationship with our whole family. I would recommend him to anyone! He is an amazing teacher and an amazing soul!
