About Arnie

Hi! I'm Arnie and I'm a freshman at the University of Redlands. Im currently enrolled as Financial Economics major, so I've had to take a fair share of math classes my entire life. Math has always been something I have excelled at. I have found that understanding math comes to me naturally. I've never really had to study a concept too much in detail in order to get a proper grasp on it. Because of this, I have had the opportunity to teach and tutor many different students from a variety of different age gaps in different mathematical subjects. Whether it be basic algebra to advanced precalculus I have had the opportunity to be in a situation where I have helped a student with their classes, and watched them excel. I understand that as a college freshman you may not be inclined to choose me as a tutor compared to some of the more older people here, but I can guarantee you my experience would match most of theirs.

About the lesson

My teaching plan is based upon what the student needs. I plan my lessons based on what my student is struggling with, and if there are no struggles what the student is going to be taught in the future so that I can go over the concepts with them before they are actually taught in class. I have found that students often have an increased understanding of the concept if they have had prior experience with it. A typical lesson plan would be as follows: Let's say the student I am tutoring is having difficulty with the Pythagorean Theorem. I would start the lesson off by going over what exactly the concept is in detail, before providing them with examples that I would solve with them. After I have ensured that they have understood the concept I would give them practice problems to solve that will slowly increase in difficulty until I am sure the student has mastered it. If I ever see any mistakes the student makes, we would go back to completing an example with me and re-explaining the concept in a different way. My ideology is that practice makes perfect; and the perfect way to practice is through repetition. Once the brain has seen a problem enough times, it automatically starts breaking down the problems and understanding what the problem is about before the student themselves start working it out. That is my end goal with every lesson. That a student can unconsciously start working out how to solve a problem before actually putting pen to paper.
