About Wilco

I love seeing people get passionate about music. It helps me realise that it truly is a universal language; you just have to be able to hear it to learn to speak it. Teaching guitar is something I have always done out of enjoyment first and foremost. I have seen friends develop not only an interest but a genuine enjoyment for guitar playing. Through small bits of advice, jamming, and sharing our musical interests, I have seen their skill and enjoyment grow. Something I strive for is eliminating the mundaneness of theory and tedious progression; learning guitar should be fun!!! Find your own way, under the abundant guidance of great players that have come before you. It should be about experimenting, trying new things, and coming back to the old things with a new perspective. This way, learning guitar always feels fresh, endless, yet inspiring and inviting.

About the lesson

In a lesson, I would love to deep dive into a song, certain artist, band, or genre. Whether it's techniques, practising ideas, or tips on where to start, or even how to progress into a more intermediate stage... I specifically focus on how to create a productive, fun, and progressive learning environment as a beginner guitarist or recording artist. Helping you find your own unique style of play, idea creation and ultimately allowing you to collaborate with other musicians is my goal.

I would love to learn about your music tastes, influences, and specifically what motivated you to pick up the instrument in the first place. Developing interest through inspiration is something I value highly; I would love to give you my personal examples that made me invest 8 years into electric/acoustic guitar, in an effort to find your own sources of imagination. We will be analysing songwriting, arrangements, and chord progressions, even soloing. Everyone I have taught guitar to eventually begins to develop their individual style which is extremely important with guitar, as people tend to fall into derivative methodologies. This means exploring different approaches to learning and keeping an open mind without genre boundaries. Music is an important outlet for many people, and I think building a skillset that allows for creative expression is very significant. Each lesson would be 1-2 hours, allowing enough time for discussion as well as assigning practising techniques and songs to work on. My experience is currently limited to teaching beginners and assisting them into an intermediate skill level, where ultimately they will be able to become a self-taught, self-sufficient musician.
