About Amara
As an English and reading tutor for students from elementary through high school, I adapt my teaching approach to fit each student’s age, learning style, and goals. With younger learners especially, I focus on keeping lessons flexible, engaging, and fun. I use a mix of read-alouds, writing prompts, vocabulary games, discussion-based analysis, and real-world connections to help students develop strong reading comprehension and writing skills. A typical session might include a quick review, a short mini-lesson, guided reading or writing, and then student-led practice or creative activities. What sets me apart is my academic background as a Stanford student and my extensive experience working with kids across all age groups. My goal is to help students build confidence as readers and writers—and to spark a lifelong love of language along the way.

Hello! I’m a Biology major at Stanford University, originally from Hawai‘i, and currently on the pre-med track. While I’m passionate about neuroscience research, I also have a deep love for English and writing—whether it’s crafting essays or exploring great literature. Growing up with ten younger siblings has shown me that every student learns differently, and it’s helped me develop a flexible, thoughtful approach to teaching.
