About Kyra

About Me: Your Partner in Learning

Hello! I'm Kyra and I'm thrilled to bring my diverse teaching experience to the realm of tutoring. I am a current PhD student at the University of Cambridge studying brain ageing using tool like CRISPR-Cas9 and single cell sequencing. I obtained my bachelors degree is in Neuroscience and Creative writing in 2018, then worked at the National Institutes of Health in the US for 3 years where I studied brain cancer and Alzheimer's. With a background in coaching and mentoring, I've spent over 7 years working with children of all ages as a volleyball coach, and I've mentored several summer students and undergraduates in my laboratory setting. This experience has given me a deep appreciation for the unique learning styles and needs of different age groups.

About the lesson

I approach tutoring as a collaborative journey, where both the student and I are active participants in the learning process. Drawing from my coaching and mentoring background, I'm dedicated to creating an environment where questions are encouraged, concepts are explained in an accessible manner, and the student's understanding is paramount.

Science-Based Lessons

For science-based lessons, our typical session duration is 1 hour. We'll engage in a conversational exploration of the homework or chosen topic, fostering an environment where questions are welcomed as they arise. This interactive approach helps solidify understanding and bridge any knowledge gaps.

English and Essay Revisions

In the realm of English and essay revisions, our sessions follow a structured yet flexible format. We'll spend 30 minutes in a one-on-one discussion, during which you'll share your essay with me prior to our meeting. I'll provide insightful remarks, and then we'll engage in a collaborative discussion about areas of improvement for the essay. This dual approach ensures that you not only receive guidance on written communication but also actively participate in refining your writing skills.
