About Ali

My name is Ali Khalid and I'm currently a fourth year Law and Global Studies student at La Trobe University. I had gained an ATAR of 89.10 at the end of VCE year in 2018 with most of my scores deriving from Japanese and history, having learnt Japanese as a second language since the age of 13. Immediately after I had graduated I worked as a translator and transcriber, translating from Japanese to English for about a year, working for various commercial companies and universities over in Japan where I translated and transcribed company documents, videos and university lectures. I had continuously studied history in my spare time well after high school and I am now currently working as a receptionist.

I wanted to teach because I know how unwelcoming and unforgiving a lot of these subjects and topics are to beginners. These subjects and topics are usually written in a language that does not care too much on how easily it might be understood, with an entirely unwarranted, massive amount of resources and directions that confuse people. I want to teach because I want people to start knowing what direction they have to go and so that they aren't wandering through life without knowing what they're doing.

About the lesson

I have a core focus on teaching Japanese through grammar and I teach Japanese in a way that gets rid of all that complicated linguistic language like "conjugative adjective", "consonant stem" etc. etc. and rather teach it straightforward and in a way that is easily understandable and graspable by the average person making use of your own knowledge and current understanding of your own language. I like to shift the naturalness of your native language to that of the one you're learning.

As language learning is also a constant process I provide with a variety of resources and systems that you will be reliant upon to continue your language learning on your own. I like to assist learners not just to get the best out of their grades by making their classes quick and easy to understand with no effort but to eventually increase their fluency and ability on their own in a self-sufficient way through various methods and techniques one can use by themselves through their own initiative.

I believe in the convenience and usefulness of spoken language and being able to understand it verbally so I will have much more of a particular expertise and focus on those aspects, although written and reading ability is just as important and is more important and interrelated with conversational skills than one might think.

Lessons go for about an hour to an hour and a half if requested as I think this time frame is enough to really drive through language learning and lessons.

My lessons are for all high school level students going from year 7 to 12, though my classes will be most useful to those in VCE from year 11 to year 12 as that's where I have more official experience and history in being one of the top scorers in the state
