About Maxwell

Hi, I'm Maxwell! I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Melbourne, after graduating as Dux of my high school with a perfect GPA and a converted ATAR of 99.80 (110 NCEA Level 3 credits at Excellence). What I bring to every lesson is patience, adaptability, and a genuine belief that anyone can understand anything with the right explanation. I focus on building real understanding from the ground up, rather than quick fixes or memorization, so students leave each session more confident — not just in the subject, but in themselves as learners. Whether you're aiming for Excellence, working to pass, or just need a subject to finally make sense, I'd love to help you get there.

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Maxwell — a University of Melbourne student studying Electrical Engineering and Mathematics & Statistics, with a passion for helping students build confidence in Math, Physics, Statistics, and English. My approach to tutoring is that I focus on building understanding from first principles. I want students to understand why something works, not just how to apply a formula. I use a step-by-step, student-centered approach, and where possible I ask guiding questions instead of giving direct answers, so students develop independent problem-solving skills they can rely on in exams. I adapt my teaching style to each student; whether that's visual explanations, real-world analogies, or breaking problems into smaller, more manageable steps. Lessons typically run for 1 to 1.5 hours, combining a mix of concept explanation, worked examples, and independent practice. For exam preparation, I focus on identifying a student's specific weak areas through practice problems and targeting revision toward those gaps, rather than re-covering material broadly. My experience and qualifications: Achieved 110 Level 3 NCEA credits at Excellence, received the Dux Litterarum award at my high school, and received offers from multiple top universities. My lessons are for students from Year 9 through to NCEA Level 3, and I'm happy to support students at any level — whether you're working toward Achieved, Merit, or Excellence, building confidence for exams, or just need extra support with a subject that's been feeling overwhelming.
