About Mackenzie

Hi, my name is Mackenzie. I am currently a Chemistry major with plans to pursue astrochemistry, and I was previously a Biology major before discovering that chemistry was where I truly felt at home. That academic shift strengthened my perspective and allowed me to build a well-rounded science foundation while learning how to adapt and grow through challenging coursework.

The best teachers I’ve had were deeply knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely excited about what they were teaching. That kind of energy makes a difference, and it’s something I strive to bring into every session. I have always been fascinated by math and science, and over time, those interests have grown into something much bigger. STEM isn’t just a subject that I study; it’s something I truly love.

Because I’ve navigated rigorous science courses myself, I understand how overwhelming these subjects can feel at times. I approach tutoring with empathy, patience, and encouragement. I want students to feel comfortable, capable, and supported while building both understanding and confidence.

My teaching approach focuses on understanding rather than memorization. In math and science, especially, I believe students succeed when they understand the “why” behind concepts rather than just following steps. I break down complex material into manageable pieces, use real-world examples when possible, and encourage active participation so students are thinking through problems instead of passively listening.

I adapt my teaching style depending on how a student learns best. I like to use questioning techniques that help students build critical thinking skills. Rather than immediately giving answers, I ask strategic questions to help students arrive at conclusions on their own. I break concepts down step-by-step to help a student understand the material, rather than memorizing for a test.

A typical session begins with checking in with the student and identifying specific problem areas or reviewing recent class material. From there, we review key concepts, work through practice problems together, and then solve practice problems independently. I end sessions with a recap of the concept and provide a space for students to ask any further questions. If needed, I can also help with homework, test preparation, and study strategies.

As a Chemistry major pursuing astrochemistry, I have a strong foundation in STEM and a genuine passion for these subjects. I understand firsthand how challenging math and science courses can be, so I approach tutoring with patience and empathy. I prioritize creating a comfortable environment where students feel safe asking questions. My goal isn’t just better grades, but stronger confidence and long-term retention.
I work with students from middle school to high school in general math and science. This includes foundational math and science, algebra, geometry, chemistry, and biology.
