About Theodorus

Good morning! My name is Theo. I am a student at Columbia University in New York (where I am from) and it is my dream to be a writer. I was in Paris for high school and that's why I speak French. There I am returning for the summer to stay with my family who lives here.

I am passionate about the English language and it gives me great pleasure to share my passion with others as an English teacher. Since when I was in high school I worked regularly in a primary school as an assistant English teacher (Ecole Malala in Aubervilliers) and also as a tutor for other students in my school. After high school I continued to teach English in France with the Moji agency and since I returned to the United States I work in a primary school where I help students with their homework. Although I mainly work with children and teenagers I also have experience with adults and am fine with all ages.

For English lessons:

Literature is my passion and for me there is a lot of joy in mastering a language. I adapt my way of teaching to each student according to their particular level and their interests. My goal as a teacher is to make learning English a fun experience and therefore I integrate my students' interests (history, sports, or Manga for example) into my lessons to add fun. and our work. I also have a background in theater (I studied with Cours Florent in Paris and I act in plays at my school in New York) which I use to do more dynamic lessons where we focus on speaking English .

I have experience with students from kindergarten to high school but I am also open to working with adults. I worked with students on their school homework and also with external materials that I chose (I use the books or plays that I like to teach vocabulary and stimulate students for example).

To give an idea of how my classes are going, I present to you a typical lesson with a high school student. For the first half of the lesson, we work on his homework and I encourage him to read aloud and help him with the pronunciation. I write down the elements of vocabulary or grammar that were difficult for him and after we finish his homework we review them and master them. Then we leave for the last quarter of the lesson on something fun and more challenging. Maybe he reads a chapter of an English book or manga aloud and then I ask him to do an oral synthesis of what was told in the chapter.

Creative writing:

If there is interest I can incorporate my training in creative writing into the lessons to help my students in their work of artistic composition in English. I have plenty of exercises that I did at my university to use to improve their level in descriptions and characterization. Also I can be useful as editor of their stories and other compositions.
