About Jessica

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno and am currently completing my Master’s in Elementary Education at Grand Canyon University. I am currently an emergency certified teacher in Arizona, and I also hold both a Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement and a Reading Endorsement, which strengthen my ability to teach foundational literacy skills and support English language learners. I have three years of full-time classroom teaching experience in grades 2–4, in addition to one year as a long-term substitute teacher. Most of my experience has been in Title I schools, where I provided engaging, differentiated instruction to diverse groups of learners. I’ve worked with students in both whole-group settings and small-group interventions, with a focus on building reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. My teaching style is warm, patient, and student-centered. I love helping students build their confidence while making learning approachable and meaningful. Outside of teaching, I have a growing passion for art—I’m currently taking ceramics and drawing classes—and I spend as much time as I can outdoors, whether hiking, exploring local gardens, or finding creative inspiration in nature. These interests often influence my teaching style, as I enjoy bringing creativity and curiosity into everything I do.

About the lesson

My tutoring sessions are student-centered, supportive, and tailored to individual needs. I believe in meeting students where they are and building confidence through clear explanations, guided practice, and positive reinforcement. Whether a student is struggling with foundational skills or looking to push themselves further, I break things down in a way that feels manageable and encouraging.

A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in or review, followed by direct instruction on the current skill or concept. We then move into hands-on practice with feedback, and close the session with reflection or a brief preview of what’s next. I like to keep things interactive, structured, and flexible—adjusting on the fly if something isn’t working.

I’ve worked with students in grades K-8, but my specialties are early literacy, reading comprehension, writing, and language skills. I’m especially experienced with ELL students and children who need extra patience and encouragement. My background in the classroom, paired with my creative energy and calm presence, helps students feel safe to ask questions and take risks.
