About April
My own love of art started with a fascination for anime, cartoons, and seeing how my skills can bring imaginary worlds to life. Seeing art books and behind the scenes documentaries of my favorite video games / animes, featuring work by artists I adore, that made me decide to go all in. It was around this time when I discovered Concept Design Academy and gained the skills that eventually led me into a career creating visual assets for animated productions and other entertainment projects.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in amazing studios alongside incredibly talented artists while also teaching students with a variety of skill levels. I enjoy helping students understand not only how to draw, but how something works. I especially enjoy working with students who are excited about anime, animation, games, comics, or character design and want to learn how to turn the things they imagine into actual drawings.

Hello parents, students, and curious creatives!
My name is April, I’m an animation industry veteran with 10+ years of experience designing characters, props, VFX, and backgrounds for shows like Rick and Morty, Legend of Vox Machina, Batman, and Transformers. In addition to my industry work, I’ve spent years teaching art to students of all levels, from middle schoolers wanting to draw their favorite characters to college graduates seeking career assistance. I’m proud to say several of my students have gone on to work in animation studios across North America and Japan.
My approach integrates my industry experience while focusing on foundational art training with encouragement, clarity, and fun. Every lesson is tailored to the goals, skill level, and learning pace of the student, helping them master the fundamentals and strengthen their own creative voice.
I specialize in:
- Drawing fundamentals (Anatomy, Composition, Perspective, Color Theory, etc)
- Digital tools (Photoshop, After Effects, Blender, Clip Studio Paint, Live2D, etc)
- Traditional tools (Charcoal, Pen and Ink, Watercolor, Gouache, Clay, etc)
- Anime / Manga style design
- Development of your own art voice and unique style
- Portfolio prep for college or industry pathways
Students tell me they feel more confident, more focused, and more excited about their art after working with me. I believe in honest feedback, engaging exercises, tracking progress, and helping students develop the skills they need to succeed not just as artists, but as lifelong creative thinkers. If your student is passionate about art or animation, wants to grow their skills, or just needs a little direction, I’d love to help. Let’s connect!
