About Melody
I became a certified teacher in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis on math. In 2005 I received my Masters in Education.
I have always had a passion for teaching students through real-world experiences which are meaningful to them. Creativity, passion, courage and perseverance are the personal qualities I model to my students. I believe all students have strengths, and it has been my goal to assist students in identifying and building upon them.
I am a certified teacher in Missouri and Oklahoma and have taught adolescents and adults over the past twenty-two years. As a middle school teacher, I orchestrated activities which encouraged students' minds to remain active, to assess, to recheck an answer and to further develop an idea or a thought. I implemented the reform program MathThematics and saw a tremendous increase in the number of students scoring in the Advanced and Proficient levels on the Missouri state assessment.
I have taught and counseled adults on how to obtain their GED and to seek employment. I have been an adjunct professor at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri; an adjunct professor at Platt College in
Moore, Oklahoma and in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; also an adjunct professor at OCCC in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The act of being a teacher is the act of teaching goals such as: being lifelong learners, being able to problem-solve and look at things differently; being able to work independently; being able to speak well, write well, read well and work well with numbers. My teaching approach is assisting a student in discovering who they are and to give them the tools with which to use to gain an understanding of the concepts that are presented to them. I teach to the needs of each student so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I present curriculum that involves the interests of the student and makes learning relevant to life.
