About CHARLES
Hi! I'm Charles Fick, a Special Education Teacher based in Cortland, NY. I've spent my life dedicated to education, spiritual formation, and justice, and I bring that same passion into every tutoring session—whether I'm supporting students with learning differences or helping others explore History, English, or the Bible more deeply. I hold a degree in Urban Education and Development from Cornell University (2006) and a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (2021). I'm also the proud father of three sons—two of whom are on the autism spectrum. That lived experience fuels my understanding and empathy for neurodiverse learners, and it shapes my patient, affirming, student-centered approach. When I'm not teaching, you can find me drinking strong coffee, building Legos with my kids, cheering for Cornell Hockey, or curling! If you're looking for a tutor who brings both professional expertise and personal understanding, I'd be honored to work with you or your child.

History is more than names and dates—it’s about people, stories, and systems. As a Cornell-trained historian and certified educator, I help students engage critically with social studies content, from ancient civilizations to U.S. government. I teach skills like note-taking, DBQ writing, and source analysis in a way that’s clear and empowering. My interdisciplinary approach integrates discussion, visuals, and personal connection—perfect for students who need more than just textbook learning. For neurodiverse learners, I provide predictable structure and sensory-friendly pacing to reduce anxiety and increase success.

Charles Fick is a teacher who cares about his students and will find the best way for each individual student to learn.
I have worked with Charles throughout the 2024-25 school year. He has shown himself willing to work with any student and to fit his instruction to that student's learning style. His main goal is a teacher is for his students to be successful in school and out of school.I would like to enthusiastically recommend Charles Fick as a candidate for teaching special education or social studies classes at the secondary level. While working as my special education co-teacher during the 2024-25 school year, Charles has shown content expertise in early US history. In terms of his abilities as a special education instructor, he has an excellent rapport with students, showing empathy and understanding for what will help unorthodox learners achieve their best results.
Charles has shown the ability to be deferential to my role in leading daily lessons while at the same time being totally capable of taking a lead position in running the classroom if I am absent. Charles can also smoothly transition to lead teacher during a lesson if he has a unique insight to the lesson topic, or if I am busy helping a student with a task. Any co-taught classroom he is a part of will have an extra layer of knowledge and classroom management.
Charles is knowledgeable and easy to work with. He is easily one of the best co-teachers I’ve taught alongside. Charles would be a great asset to whomever he is working for. I highly recommend him.
I highly recommend Charles as a tutor you can trust. He’s calm, kind, and incredibly patient—someone who creates a safe, encouraging space for learning. With multiple degrees and extensive experience as both a teacher and a father to children with special needs, he brings a deep well of empathy, adaptability, and insight to his work.
Whether he's helping a college student grasp a tough concept or supporting a younger learner with special needs who needs a little extra encouragement, he meets each person where they are and helps them grow with confidence. He has a gift for making complex things understandable, always with a gentle, steady presence.
If you're looking for a tutor who is knowledgeable, trustworthy, and genuinely invested in your or your child’s success, I can't recommend him highly enough.Charles is a coworker on my team. We share the same cohort of students. Being a special education teacher he always strives to do what's best for each and every student to help them have the same opportunities of others. During his resource room he's always making sure his students are able to catch up and re-learn skills as they need. As the science teacher on his team, if a student needs help/extra support Charles let's me help or ask's me how he can help them. Charles won't let a student fall behind or give up.
Because Charles goes above and beyond for his students in the classroom and no subject seems to be out of his reach, I believe he would be a great member of Superprof. Any student would be lucky to have Charles on their team.Charles is a person of kindness and integrity who loves imparting knowledge and understanding to those he teaches.
Charles has excellent inductive Bible study skills PLUS the added benefit of graduate-level study of the Biblical languages, including Aramaic. His knowledge of the Gospel of Mark in particular is notable.
Charles is an excellent teacher and a trustworthy person. I’ve known him for several years and throughout that time he has always been thoughtful, empathetic, and skillful in the way that he teaches. He has a curious and whimsical nature about him and an excellent sense of humor. He has given me powerful guidance in my faith and has been a person who has deeply affected my life. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking to learn about or grow their faith.
