About Alejandro
Hi, my name is Jorge, but you can call me Alex!
When I started high school, I struggled with the new environment and pressures, nearly flunking out with a 1.2 GPA. But during the summer, I dedicated myself to reading books and studying articles aimed at helping students unlock their full potential. Armed with that knowledge, I finished my sophomore year as an Honor Roll student with a 3.5 GPA.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned during that time is that less is more. Scientific studies have shown that shorter study sessions—20 to 30 minutes—are more effective than longer ones. Our brains absorb information more efficiently and form stronger connections when we learn in smaller increments rather than over long stretches of time.
Throughout my college career, I’ve taken a wide range of math courses, including College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II, and earned an A+ in each class. While many believe that more time spent studying equals better learning, I’ve found the opposite to be true. By studying smarter—not harder—you’ll not only master the subject but also free up time for the things you enjoy outside of the classroom!
My goal is not just to help you succeed in one subject. I’m here to help you develop life skills—like time management, confidence, teamwork, and effective study habits—that will stick with you long after our sessions. Together, we’ll not only tackle the topic at hand but set you up for lifelong success.

As a tutor, I aim to teach more than just the subject at hand. I want to help you build critical thinking, communication, teamwork, confidence, and a productive workflow that you can carry with you throughout life.
Personally, I’ve always learned best through practice and teaching others, a method known as Peer Learning. In our sessions, I’ll use a whiteboard to work through problems, and then have you do the same, explaining your thought process along the way. This active approach helps reinforce your understanding and boosts your confidence.
During our first session, I’ll ask about your name, hobbies, and favorite subjects to get to know you better. We’ll then dive into the material you need help with. I’ll also provide practical insights to identify any challenging areas and tailor the session to focus on them. After each session, I’ll create five fun, personalized problems based on what we covered, which we’ll review in our next meeting.
I’m flexible with scheduling and understand how challenging school can be. I’ve been there myself—I almost failed my freshman year of high school with a 1.2 GPA. But by my sophomore year, I had turned that around to a 3.5 GPA using study techniques that helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses. I’m here to help you turn your weaknesses into strengths, just like I did!

Alex helped my son with pre-algebra last year, and I couldn't be happier with how much his scores have improved! He used to hate math, but I can see that he actually has fun during his sessions with Alex!
Alejandro would be a great asset to any student who is trying to gain a little more confidence in math. He has a deep understanding of mathematical concepts ranging from several different math areas. In addition to his technical abilities, Alejandro is personable, patient and fun in his approach to teaching. I am confident that Alejandro would be an amazing math tutor, capable of helping students achieve their academic goals.
