About Lucas
I’m originally from Brazil and moved to the United States eight years ago, where I’ve been studying and working ever since. I have a background in mathematics and computer science, and I previously tutored for the MESA program as well as the tutoring center at El Camino College. After transferring to UC Irvine and completing my degree in computer science, I began working as a junior software engineer. I enjoy helping students build confidence in math and programming through supportive and clear guidance.

Hi, I’m Lucas, and my tutoring style is very focused on working through the exact problems students are struggling with. I like to start by identifying where the confusion begins, then breaking the exercise down into a clear, step-by-step method that students can follow on their own later. I explain concepts visually and mechanically, writing out each part of the process so it feels structured and approachable.
A typical lesson with me involves reviewing class material or homework questions first, then practicing similar problems together until the student feels confident. I emphasize repetition, understanding patterns, and building strong problem-solving habits rather than memorizing shortcuts.
What sets me apart is my patience and ability to explain math and computer science in a way that makes complex topics feel simpler. My lessons are especially helpful for students who learn best by seeing each step written out, working through examples, or using a more hands-on approach.
I tutor high school and college-level students in subjects like trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, C++, data structures, and algorithms, and I enjoy helping students gain confidence in both math and programming.
