I would:
- Try to understand student's pain points and try to address them individually.
- I would make the classes more interactive, teach basics again if required, use simple words, provide real world examples so that the student learns and retains the concepts easily.
- Take step by step approach, make sure that the student understands previous concept before moving to next one.
- Ask questions regularly to check if the concept is understood by the student.
- If assignments are mandatory, I would provide assignments related to the class being taken which can be completed easily if the concepts are understood during the class, preferably a word document. The assignment can be completed by referring other sources like books or online.
