About Derek
"I'm just a simple man trying to make his way in the universe"
Similar to the fictional character who said such a quote, I'm making my way through the universe, that is, the endless universe of programming. However, unlike Jango Fett, I am not a mandalorian with a jetpack.
Pop culture reference aside, my journey in the world of programming has taken me through more than 5 years of courses at this time, starting from freshman year of high school with AP Computer Science A.
I've trudged through many of the obstacles students face when trying to learn programming, and want to help those going through the same and prepare them for their courses and potentially a future in computer science.

I aim to help students improve their programming skills, knowing that the basic concepts are very hard to grasp sometimes due to their abstract nature such as object oriented programming and polymorphism.
Additionally, those taking AP courses such as AP CS A or AP CS Principles will benefit greatly with me as I have been through such curriculum, scoring a 5 on each exam, and normally code in Java and Python and JavaScript at university.
Typical lesson plans will involve teaching of the concept first, while making sure the student understands. I will simplify the concepts to a more general level they can understand, and then provide examples. Afterwards, we will walk through problems involving the concepts.
