My teaching methods are rooted in my students’ interests. I believe that as a teacher it is my job to cater to the musical spark of each of my individual students. I do possess a refined pedagogical approach of my own, but I use this approach in conjunction with the students’ needs.
A typical lesson plan will look something like this:
-technical exercise
-music theory concept
-reading music
-song or musical excerpt
-suggested listenings
*NOTE: lesson plans will ALWAYS be based on what a given student wishes to work on* :)
What sets me apart as a teacher is the musical lineage I am a part of and the real world performance experience I possess. I am a former student of the great John Clayton, one of the most celebrated acoustic bass players of the past 50 years. My teaching style is directly based on how Mr. Clayton taught me. I have performed at Birdland Jazz Club and Dizzy’s Club Cola in New York City, and have performed locally in Northern California and South Florida for the past six years. I have a great understanding of how to develop as a musician on a personal level, as well as what sort of musical developments will lead to playing opportunities.
My lessons are great for:
-Beginner bass enthusiasts
-Hobbyist bass players, all skill levels
-Bassists enrolled in school music programs
-Up and coming bassists looking to give themselves a musical edge
-Guitarists looking for a strong foundation on the instrument
