About Melanie

I am a college student who is currently studying biology and international relations at Virginia Tech. I am on the pre-med track, and I aspire to either be a Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon or a Trauma Surgeon. Throughout high school, I maintained honor roll and was inducted into both the math national honor society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the science national honor society. I also received the Principal's Scholar award in junior year, I joined both the National Society of High School Scholars and the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in sophomore year, and was in the top 17% at my high school. In the summer of 2024, I received a certificate from William and Mary for the pre-college program "Disease, Diagnostics and Interventions." I do have tutoring experience, both academically and sports-wise. I have previous tutoring experience, of about 2-3 years, due to my involvement in the math and science national honor society. In terms of sports, I have done gymnastics my entire life. I competed at level 10 in my last gymnastics season. This being said, I understand commitment, dedication, perseverance, and time management. I would love to help you try difficult problems and will celebrate with you when you get them correct. I would love to help you figure out a way to manage your time better if that's what's needed. When tutoring, I like to figure out a student's learning style, so they can get the most out of our tutoring sessions. I enjoy working with students and helping them grow their confidence. I also like to teach and learn through games, like Kahoot and Gimkit. I have taught students of all ages, from elementary-aged children to high school-aged children. I also coached gymnastics, so I understand students of all ages. I also believe that I can help your students learn because I understand them and who they are and how they learn. Being a student myself who just graduated from high school, I strive to learn from your students as well. I'm excited to grow together!

About the lesson

I enjoy helping students gain a better understanding of challenging subjects. I love seeing them improve and get a big smile on their face when they realize they've earned an A on an exam. Typically, I will create Quizlet or incorporate games into the lesson, which provides a more immersive and intensive learning experience while making it fun. I prefer when students provide notes ahead of time, or questions or worksheets, so I can prepare more detailed explanations that are easy to understand. I can teach all ages. My only requirement is a willingness to learn. I truly believe that the work you put in is the work you will get out, otherwise known as results. I look forward to helping you all!
