About Alexander
I was a math&comp Prof for 30+ years at CUNY and U of Miami, Miami Dade college.
My Educational Philosophy is: “Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any simpler”.
Many students find mathematics hard because they do not see a general structure in it behind the technicalities. Different topics look like pieces of a puzzle with no picture to connect them. That is why while teaching objects (pieces) I show connections between old and new objects at all times and present ideas before techniques.
I ask the students to guess both what the problem is and how to solve it, which makes students interested in both by following up their guesses.

I try to make things as simple as possible, but not any simpler. To make lectures alive I use simple examples for the hard theories, explain the meaning of the formulas ‘on fingers’ and ask students to do the same. Also, I ask students to guess both what the problem is and how to solve it, which makes them interested in both by following up their guesses. I believe it is necessary for a teacher to be passionate about the subject in order to transmit that enthusiasm to the students.
Lessons are for all levels of college and high school math&stat as well as standardized tests.
