About Rioghnach
Hello! My name is Rioghnach. I love literature and how it makes us question and reimagine the world around us. This passion led me to study Classics at the University of Cambridge (Corpus Christi College), then onto an MA and PhD in Classics and Comparative Literature at King's College London. My PhD thesis explored the ancient Greek poet Sappho, and how her poetry contributes in surprising ways to the history of sexuality. I teach because I really enjoy sharing my expertise and enthusiasm with others, and guiding my students to develop their own passions and confidence.
I am an experienced tutor, having worked in education and higher education for 8 years. I have tutored Latin and English privately; I have worked as an SEN secondary teaching assistant supporting students in English; and during my PhD at KCL, I have regularly taught undergraduate seminars in Classics and Comparative Literature.

I work with students to meet their goals, whether it's to pass an exam (e.g. Latin GCSE), to improve specific study skills (e.g. dissertation writing, exam technique), or prepare for an important milestone (e.g. university applications or interviews) - importantly, without forgetting to enjoy the subject at hand!
In the first session, I will ask what you most struggle with in the subject, what you most enjoy, and what your goals are, and we will build from there! We will identify and address areas for improvement, increase your confidence, and develop your individual strengths and passions.
Typical sessions are one hour.
My lessons are for secondary students working towards Common Entrance/ GCSE/ A levels/ university applications (including Oxbridge), and also university students (undergraduate, masters, or PhD).
