About Luke
I am, by training, a teacher and journalist who has always been eager to spread my enthusiasm for learning languages (currently I am ploughing on with Japanese and Hindi). I am passionate about travelling the world and, after university, I spent a year teaching in Japan and so I know the difficulties but also all the rewards of getting to grips with foreign languages. The challenges that language learning poses have shaped me into the person I am, and informed my understanding of the world to a huge extent. I have a MA in Classics and I am CELTA-qualified. I keep up my Latin and Greek by translating literature and by reading and reviewing history books.

I take a personable approach to tutoring and I look to fit in with the preferences and needs of my students. I'm here to help students attain their goals, whether that be exams or independent study, but also to foster a sense of enjoyment in the subject and to make sessions worthwhile. In the previous tutoring experiences I have had, 45-minute lessons tend to work best but this is not non-negotiable and I am very happy to fit in with requirements. With languages especially and the mechanics of a concept, I find it is important not just to tell or dictate, but instead guide, demonstrate and lead to understanding by engaging with English or a student's first language.
