About Liam

I want to teach people Piano for one reason, because I've had the blessing of learning Piano I want to pass on the skills that I have learned onto other people who will pass it onto others. What makes me the best Piano teacher is simple really, I was taught by my grandfather's friend who taught him and my dad as well, he was an ordinary humble guy who just taught from his home studio at his house, he was a great teacher and not only can I pass on his amazing teachings but also I bring a down-to-earth approach to my teaching and to myself as a person because of the way I was taught and the lifestyle and situation I was in as a kid. I believe in his teachings strongly however I also bring to the table strong opinions and teaching strategies that I find to be missing in most teaching practices today and

About the lesson

I believe that every single person that learns any skill is unique because of their individual way of learning things, everyone learns in different ways, and not one is better than the other and teaching one person will be different for another. However, because of my experience teaching children piano I have come to learn and believe that piano should be taught in the simplest ways possible, like you're teaching a young child but also with a curriculum or set piano book that is simple and not overcomplicated. The way I teach is that I ask first what the student's goals are for the piano? That way we are setting the lessons up with myself to be working towards those goals bit by bit, rather than it being aimless. Then I create a very basic curriculum from my extensive music theory knowledge I have learned since a child to work around the needs of the student, building their technical skills at an achievable pace, and introducing new concepts on a need-to-know basis all while reinforcing positive encouragement and confidence for each student. The most important aspect is to not rush, don't rush yourself and don't rush the student, everyone moves at their own pace and that's okay.
